Product placement is a common tool in marketing. Although most people would not relate product placement to digital marketing it is a very effective tool also in the internet.

Red Bull is probably one of the most famous products placers. “Ghost-Sponsoring” famous people all around the world without the public actually realizing it. “Ghost-Sponsoring” refers to the trend that products are placed without an official announcement of that sponsoring. The logo of the firm is not placed and consumer don’t feel the sponsoring except through the placed product. The idea behind it is, that people see the product as naturally there and don’t experience it as advertisement.

A common and effective tool in online marketing is the use of pictures and videos posted on social medias or websites etc. There product placement comes into play. Fans and viewers see advertisement without realizing it and without feeling bombarded. For the company this leads to tremendous free reach, since especially with influencers those pictures are shared by private people and therefore spread all around. Read more about influencers in our last blog entry here.

In the picutre above you see the notorious VLOGGER Casey Neistat. He was an ambassador for apple products until he recently switched almost exclusively to Samsung Phones. This was a clever move by Samsung, since he shows his phone in many of his videos which reach millions of viewers. All along there is no Samsung advertisement warning, but people still see what Casey uses.

So you see that even in your digital marketing campaign you should never forget about the significance of product placement. Make sure that your product on the right picture and the internet will advertise it for you for free.
